PASSOVER PREPARATION - SELLING YOUR CHAMETZ (Leavened Bread and Bread Products)!
Selling the Chametz : Delegation of the Power of Attorney.
Selling your chametz before Pesach (Passover) is not a 'trick', but a legally binding sale. When you sell your chametz it belongs to the buyer who has every right to use it. In a certain community, all the chametz - including the kosher pizza shop - was sold to a police officer. During Pesach, a burglar broke in to the pizza shop. The policeman, who happened to be on duty at the time, entered the pizza shop, arrested the robber, and exclaimed, "You're robbing MY business!" And it's told of a whiskey producer in Europe who sold his entire business for Pesach. After Pesach, the buyer decided he wanted to own the business permanently, and so he refused to sell it back.
Both buyer and seller should take the sale seriously and realize that it's not a 'trick'. I know of a Rabbi who, in order to show his congregants that the sale is no joke, told the buyer to enter a home during Pesach and ask for his chametz!

I, the undersigned, fully empower and permit Rabbi Zvi Teitelbaum to act in my place and in my behalf to sell all my chametz and chametz mixtures as defined by the Torah and Rabbinic Law and to lease all places wherein the chametz owned by me may be found, especially in the premises located at:
The Rabbi has full power to sell and to lease by transactions as he deems fit and proper for such times as he believes necessary in accordance with all detailed terms and forms according to Jewish law. Also, I do hereby give the Rabbi full power and authority to appoint a substitute in his stead with full power to sell and lease. This is meant to conform with all the Torah and Rabbinic regulations and laws and also to be in accordance with the laws of the State of Maryland and of the United States of America.
And to this, I hereby affix my signature on this

NOTE:
CHAMETZ CONTRACTS MUST BE SUBMITTED by the evening of the day BEFORE the day the holiday starts (for 2012 this means THURSDAY before 5pm). ALSO - After Chametz is sold - it can be used again after Passover - but you must wait 2 hours after the end of the holiday (nightfall on the 8th day) to ensure the re-sale is complete.
